Spreading Hope & Joy
The Project: Est. 2026
The cup of joy project began after gifting 10 personalized mugs to folks who had a name change, socially or legally. We began gifting mugs with each new restock, and quickly accumulated nearly 1,000 individuals on our waiting list. We have since increased production to make as many mugs as possible.
These mugs are free, handmade, customizable, and personalized. Having changed his name a decade ago, owner Chris Klem realized that many trans individuals go their whole adult life never having received an item with their chosen name on it, and he wanted to change that.
Tee Shirts That Fund the Project
To keep the project sustainable, we created tee shirts to help fund the material and shipping costs of these mugs. Each shirt has been designed by Chris and is printed/shipped through Fourthwall. We received on average $5-7/shirt, except for our donation shirt, where we receive $15.
Donate Supplies
Purchasing supplies is one of the best ways to help me continue making these mugs for free. Clay and glaze are incredibly expensive, and if you'd like to financially contribute, you can donate a product of your choice. Maybe you want to donate a pint of glaze that was used on your mug? Or the red stoneware you're holding. Check out the wish list on The Ceramic Shop. The most commonly used items are the clay and glazes.
Glaze Options
Are you next on the list? Check out our glaze options below. We are in the process of making our own glazes, so these are subject to change.

FAQs
Absolutely! While never expected, if you would like to continue to pay it forward so others can continue receiving mugs, you can send a donation to our PayPal or Venmo: @klemceramics. You can also check out our wish list through the Ceramic Shop
Most of the material and shipping costs are at the expense of the shop. We do sometimes receive donations which go a long way towards material costs and shipping and are always grateful for the support.
We do have a wish list for anyone that would like to donate supplies.
We also sell tee-shirts through Bonfire which goes towards the project. You can check those out here: https://www.bonfire.com/store/klem-ceramics/
Because everyone deserves to have the experience of sipping from a mug made by a fellow trans neighbor, especially during times of fear, isolation, and loss. Community is one of our core values, and this project has become the focal point of our craft.
If you would like to skip the waiting list and purchase a mug, you can find the personalization option in our products.
Currently yes, however, I sometimes have extra mugs that require a quick turnaround time for stamping a name in, so we will frequently post on our Instagram stories when we have extra available. We hope to reopen the list in the future.
Thank You
We wanted to express our gratitude to Moon Thyme Arts for helping us fire all of our pots. Without them, we wouldn't be able to make as many mugs as we are.
